Prof. Osto starts her mandate as Chair of the Working Group on Atherosclerosis & vascular Biology. The Nucleus members of the working group is depicted above during the last meeting on September 1st in London held during the European Society of Cardiology annual congress .

OSSD (Organization for the Study of Sex Differences) conference 2024

The OSSD (Organization for the Study of Sex Differences) conference in 2024 was held in Bergen, Norway from May 6th to 9th. Dr. Valentina Biasin and Pamela Waked attended the conference and presented their project on the role of sex hormones in systemic sclerosis disease severity. Their presentation earned one of the ten awardees of the Florence P. Haseltine Poster Presentation award. The conference focused on showcasing research exploring sex differences in various diseases and advancing knowledge in women’s health.

Our PhD Candidate, Elisa Dietrich (M.Sc.), had the opportunity to present her work "Bile Acids promote Endothelial Cell homeostasis via the regulation of their metabolism and quiescence" at the prestigious European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2023 in Amsterdam! Congratulations Elisa, very well done!

Prof. Elena Osto, board member, with the new president of the European Society for Microcirculation elected during the 2023 Conference held April 24-27 in Aarhus, Denmark.


On the 17th of February 2023 was held the LS2 Annual Meeting at the University of Zürich, organized by the LS2 Intersection Cardiovascular Biology. Our PI, Prof. Elena Osto, was chairing the “Challenging Blood Flow Conditions in Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease” session, together with the Prof. Marie-Luce Bochaton-Piallat, from the University of Geneva. Special thanks to the keynote speaker Prof. Paul Evans from the University in Sheffield , UK.

The Cardio-Metabolic Research Group in Zürich, Switzerland (2022)


Jeivicaa Thevan has been awarded a price for the best master thesis at the Medical Faculty of Univeristy of Zurich. The winners were announced at a “Tag der lehre” organised by the University of Zurich. Elena Osto, her academic supervisor said it had been a "huge pleasure to celebrate all achievements”, especially the outstanding work of our student Jeivicaa, who contributed to establishing the interaction of sleep with metabolic blood markers of cardiovascular-inflammation and metabolism.


Greetings from the sixth congress at Frontiers in CardioVascular medicine 2022! Excellent performances from Elena Osto, Paul Evans, Gemma Vilahur, Imo Hoefer and Jules Griffin during a session of vascular metabolism.


Master thesis

4.4.2022- Congratulations to Jeivicaa Thevan BSc for successfully completing with the best vote of 6!!! her Master Thesis entitled: “Interaction of sleep with serum biomarkers of cardiovascular-inflammation and metabolism” at the medical Faculty of the University of Zurich. The work has been a fruitful collaboration with our group and the team of Dr. Caroline Lustenberger at ETH -Zurich.

Congratulations to our PI, Prof. Elena Osto, for being elected new Chairperson of ESC Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology (ESC-WG AVB). She will start her mandate in September 2022 and will automatically become Chairperson for the next 2024-2026 mandate. We wish her all the best!

We recommend scientists working on vascular biology to become a member of the ESC Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology. This will give excellent opportunity for networking during workshops, meetings of the ESC and always remain updated on latest important publications in the field.
