Recently we published a review focusing on crosstalk between high density lipoproteins (HDLs) and endothelial cells. Sex hormones and sex-specific gene expression are important although still incompletely understood determinants in the regulation of HDLs and endothelial cell cross talk and their contribution to cardiovascular health and disease. Prof. Elena Osto, board member, with the new president of the European Society for Microcirculation elected during the 2023 Conference held April 24-27 in Aarhus, Denmark.

On the 17th of February 2023 was held the LS2 Annual Meeting at the University of Zürich, organized by the LS2 Intersection Cardiovascular Biology. Our PI, Prof. Elena Osto, was chairing the “Challenging Blood Flow Conditions in Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease” session, together with the Prof. Marie-Luce Bochaton-Piallat, from the University of Geneva. Special thanks to the keynote speaker Prof. Paul Evans from the University in Sheffield , UK.

2022

Jeivicaa Thevan has been awarded a price for the best master thesis at the Medical Faculty of Univeristy of Zurich. The winners were announced at a “Tag der lehre” organised by the University of Zurich. Elena Osto, her academic supervisor said it had been a "huge pleasure to celebrate all achievements”, especially the outstanding work of our student Jeivicaa, who contributed to establishing the interaction of sleep with metabolic blood markers of cardiovascular-inflammation and metabolism.

Greetings from the sixth congress at Frontiers in CardioVascular medicine 2022! Excellent performances from Elena Osto, Paul Evans, Gemma Vilahur, Imo Hoefer and Jules Griffin during a session of vascular metabolism.

MASTER THESIS

4.4.2022- Congratulations to Jeivicaa Thevan BSc for successfully completing with the best vote of 6!!! her Master Thesis entitled: “Interaction of sleep with serum biomarkers of cardiovascular-inflammation and metabolism” at the medical Faculty of the University of Zurich. The work has been a fruitful collaboration with our group and the team of Dr. Caroline Lustenberger at ETH -Zurich.

Congratulations to our PI, Prof. Elena Osto, for her invited Talk entitled " The role of gastrointestinal hormones in the metabolic control of endothelial function" held on 02.04.2022 at https://www.microcirc.org/site_page.cfm?pk_association_webpage_menu=2210&pk_association_webpage=21058 the Symposium organized by the Microcirculatory Society during Experimental Biology 2022 in Philadelphia, US

Congratulations to our PI, Prof. Elena Osto, for being elected new Chairperson of ESC Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology (ESC-WG AVB). She will start her mandate in September 2022 and will automatically become Chairperson for the next 2024-2026 mandate. We wish her all the best!

We recommend scientists working on vascular biology to become a member of the ESC Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology. This will give excellent opportunity for networking during workshops, meetings of the ESC and always remain updated on latest important publications in the field. See membership requirements: Become a member of the ESC Working Group on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology (escardio.org)
