Our newly established lab in Graz uses a combination of state of the art molecular techniques to complement mouse and human models of disease. The dysfunction of endothelial cells is a key player in cardiovascular and metabolic disease. However, the molecular mechanisms that disrupt endothelial homeostasis remain unclear. We examine the crosstalk between gut hormones (i.e. glucagon-like peptide-1, bile acids), adipocytes and endothelial cells in health and disease. Samples collected from animal models or patients with obesity, type 2 diabetes and after bariatric surgery or other types of weight loss treatments will be analyzed in parallel. Previous experience with laboratory rodents is mandatory.
